“We need quiet time to examine our lives openly and honestly - spending quiet time alone gives your mind an opportunity to renew itself and create order.”

Are You Watching?

Updated: Apr 26, 2021

Are you watching as well as praying? In the time of battle (which, a spiritual battle is indeed waging), we cannot afford to negate being watchful also. Mat 26:41 The Bible covers a multitude of scenarios where while some were praying, others were being led to have their ear to the ground, to spy out the land, to be wise as serpents, to arm yourselves likewise, to store up for a famine, to have enough oil for the journey. Even during the first Passover in Exodus 12, the people were given natural instructions to prepare themselves for the coming destruction that was about to cover the land. God is always advising His people to be prepared both spiritually and naturally.

The word of God in Prov. 4:57 admonishes us to get wisdom and understanding. Prov 1:20-33 tells us that wisdom cries aloud and what happens to those who reject wisdom's knowledge and advice. We do not want to be among the 5 foolish virgins that did not have enough oil to complete the journey. They had to turn back to go get more oil because they were not prepared. In essence, they lack the faith needed to get enough oil for the journey. They either assumed they had enough and/or possibly that they could borrow it from others. That was not the case. The wise virgins told them "Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you...". There was no ram in the bush and no manna on the ground. They had to turn back.
I included this excerpt from my devotion this morning as it shares how God tested the men going into battle for Gideon. He chose 300 watchful men.
'But the Lord told Gideon, “There are still too many! Bring them down to the spring, and I will test them to determine who will go with you and who will not.” When Gideon took his warriors down to the water, the Lord told him, “Divide the men into two groups. In one group put all those who cup water in their hands and lap it up with their tongues like dogs. In the other group put all those who kneel down and drink with their mouths in the stream.” Only 300 of the men drank from their hands. All the others got down on their knees and drank with their mouths in the stream.' Judges 7:4-6 https://my.bible.com/bible/116/JDG.7.4-6
